Jehovah-Shalom – The LORD Is Peace

Judges 6:24 (KJV): “Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom…”

Ever been surrounded by fear, stress, or uncertainty—and felt like peace was nowhere to be found?

That’s exactly where Gideon stood when God met him. Israel was under constant attack from the Midianites. Crops were stolen. People were hiding in fear. Gideon himself was threshing wheat in secret, just trying to survive.

Then the Angel of the LORD appeared and called him a “mighty man of valour.” Gideon didn’t feel like one. He was full of doubts and questions. But God gave him this assurance: “Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.” (Judges 6:23, KJV)

In that moment of divine reassurance, Gideon built an altar and named it Jehovah-Shalom“The LORD is peace.”

What Does Jehovah-Shalom Mean for You?

God didn’t wait for Gideon to feel brave. He brought peace right into the middle of his fear.

That’s what Jehovah-Shalom means for you:
God is your peace in the storm.
Not after the trial ends. Not once everything’s fixed.
Right now—in the middle of your chaos, He is peace.

The peace God gives isn’t fragile or based on perfect circumstances. It’s deep, steady, and unshakable.
Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

You don’t have to create peace. You just have to come under the covering of Jehovah-Shalom.

Build Your Altar of Peace

Gideon didn’t just accept God’s peace—he marked it with an altar. It was a place of worship. A place of remembrance. A declaration: God met me here. And He brought peace.

Where has God met you? Where has He whispered peace into your chaos?

Maybe it’s time you build your own “altar”—not with stones, but with surrender. With prayer. With trust.

Lift your eyes today and say it out loud:
Jehovah-Shalom. The LORD is my peace.

Not the world. Not my plans. Not my own strength.

The LORD.

Let Him quiet your heart, calm your thoughts, and lead you forward—not in fear, but in His perfect peace.
