When you think about walking with Jesus, you probably picture faith, love, and obedience. That’s all right-good-and expected. But the Bible takes it deeper—it calls you to think like Jesus. Over and over, Scripture doesn’t just tell you to act like Him. It says you should have His mind. That means taking on His attitude, His humility, His way of seeing people, and His focus on the Father.
Let’s walk through what the Bible says about having the mind of Christ—and how it changes everything about how you live.
Let This Mind Be in You (Philippians 2:5)
Paul lays it out clearly in Philippians 2:5: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”
What kind of mind is that? If you read the verses right before and after, you see it’s a mind of humility and sacrifice.
Jesus didn’t cling to His status as equal with God—He made Himself of no reputation. He became a servant. He humbled Himself even to death on a cross.
When you’re told to let that same mind be in you, it’s not a suggestion.
It’s a challenge to die to pride, ambition, and self-promotion—and take on the heart of a servant.
That’s what the mind of Christ looks like.
We Have the Mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
This is staggering. You’re not trying to earn or guess at the mind of Christ—you have it. Through the Holy Ghost, you’ve been given access to the thoughts, insights, and wisdom of the Son of God.
You don’t have to rely on human reasoning.
You’ve got something greater inside you—the ability to discern spiritual truth, think with heavenly wisdom, and see things from God’s perspective.
But it takes practice. The more time you spend in the Word, in prayer, and yielding to the Spirit, the clearer Christ’s thoughts become in your own heart.
Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind (Romans 12:2)
“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
The world tries to shape your thoughts every day—through media, culture, fear, and self-centeredness. But God offers transformation. Not just behavior modification.
Heart-deep, mind-deep renewal.
To have the mind of Christ, your thinking has to be re-shaped by truth.
That happens when you meditate on Scripture, reject worldly thinking, and let the Holy Spirit rewire how you see everything—success, suffering, people, and even yourself.
Set Your Affection on Things Above (Colossians 3:2)
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
This is a mindset shift. The world teaches you to chase comfort, money, approval, and power. But the mind of Christ sets its focus on the eternal. Jesus was never distracted by earthly status. His eyes were always on the will of the Father.
If you want to think like Jesus, you have to lift your gaze. Fix your heart on what matters most. Let heaven shape your desires.
That doesn’t mean ignoring your responsibilities—but it does mean living with eternity in view.
Be Renewed in the Spirit of Your Mind (Ephesians 4:23)
“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”
There’s a deep work God wants to do in your inner life. Not just on the surface.
This “renewal” goes beyond a better attitude—it’s about changing the source of your thoughts.
Instead of reacting out of fear, insecurity, or anger, you begin responding with the Spirit’s wisdom and peace.
This kind of renewal isn’t a one-time fix.
It’s daily. Sometimes hourly. But every time you yield to the Spirit, you think a little more like Christ.
Striving Together With One Mind (Philippians 1:27; 2:2)
“Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.”
“Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”
The mind of Christ isn’t just personal—it’s shared. God’s people are called to unity, and that unity is possible when we all adopt His mindset.
No more selfish ambition, no more competition.
Instead, a body of believers, thinking like Jesus, serving one another, and pushing forward for the sake of the Gospel.
You don’t have to agree on every opinion or preference.
But when your hearts are aligned with His, you can strive together with one mind.
Putting the Mind of Christ Into Practice
Having the mind of Christ isn’t about head knowledge—it’s about heart transformation.
Here’s how you start walking in it:
- Humble yourself daily. Serve like Jesus did.
- Stay in the Word. Let it shape your thoughts.
- Listen to the Spirit. He reveals Christ’s wisdom.
- Lift your gaze. Fix your mind on eternal things.
- Think with grace, not pride. Put others ahead of yourself.
- Stay connected with other believers in unity of purpose.
You’ve already been given the mind of Christ. The question is—are you using it?
Ask the Lord today to renew your thinking. Let Him align your thoughts with His. Because when you start thinking like Jesus, you’ll start living like Him—and that’s when the world around you will begin to see His light through you.
