You should accept Jesus Christ as your Savior because without Him, you’re lost—cut off from God, bound by sin, and headed for eternal separation.
And I think it’s exceptionally difficult for most of us to wrap our heads around “eternity”. But, I’m sure it’s a really long time.
And when I ponder eternity (what’s left after I “die”) and compare it with the longevity of my my life on earth, it’s way too long to take a chance on.
With Jesus, the only way to be united with God, Heaven is your hope for all of eternity. It’s where we spend the rest of eternity in a life of absolutely nothing but good. Life in Heaven will look a lot like this with negatives being impossible:
- love
- joy
- peace
- faith
- hope
- kindness
- gentleness
- patience
- forgiveness
- gratitude
- humility
- compassion
- mercy
- truth
- righteousness
- self-control
- generosity
- goodness
- obedience
- trust
- wisdom
- meekness
- purity
- courage
- contentment
- boldness
The alternative is what we know of as Hell, and that just ain’t pretty.
It’s where there’s no more chances to unite with what’s good. That’s important! In Hell there will never ever again be a chance to experience good, only bad. It’s a place of everything we know as bad. I can think of a few things we know as bad, which will be the constant in Hell – with absolutely no hope of escape or even a “good” moment.
Grief, worry, anger, and fear are powerful negatives that can affect us. But I am sure an eternity in Hell will look alot like eternal:
- grief
- worry
- anger
- fear
- shame
- guilt
- bitterness
- envy
- jealousy
- depression
- hopelessness
- doubt
- pride
- unforgiveness
- resentment
- self-pity
- condemnation
- despair
- rejection
- lust
- greed
- covetousness
- anxiety
- hatred
- rebellion
- impatience
- control
What It Means To Be Separated From God
Being separated from God is not only after “dying”, or leaving this earth!
The thing is that being united with God on earth should at some time start looking a lot like the list above that includes what’s in Heaven.
Think about that. If life on earth looks a lot like the list of what Hell will include, there’s a good chance you can change that. But, there’s only one way to change from that list to the other, and that’s by surrendering to a life with Jesus.
That’s what it means to be redeemed.
If you’ve been redeemed it wasn’t by silver or gold, or any thing you did, but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. His death on the Cross wasn’t just a tragic event in history; it was the dramatic and ultimate rescue mission for your eternal soul – AND – your life right here on earth.
When He hung on that tree, He carried every sin, every shame, every worry, every word in that list above of negatives you’ve ever borne that separated you from God. His blood paid the price to buy you back from the grip of sin and death and life of misery.
When you’ve been redeemed you’re no longer a slave to misery—you’re a child of God, washed clean and made new. As it is written, In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:14).
But, that’s not all, being redeemed by Jesus doesn’t just change your eternity; it transforms your life right here on earth. Here’s a list of powerful, positive things that flow into your life once you’ve been redeemed:
peace with God
forgiveness of sins
a clean conscience
new identity in Christ
freedom from guilt and shame
joy unspeakable
power to resist sin
relationship with the Holy Spirit
access to God through prayer
purpose in life
victory over fear
hope for the future
healing of the heart
confidence in trials
the fruit of the Spirit
rest from striving
a heart that loves others
grace to forgive
boldness to witness
the mind of Christ
the ability to worship in spirit and truth
membership in the body of Christ
authority over darkness
eternal security
God’s favor and blessing
wisdom from above
strength when you’re weak
unshakable identity
divine protection
daily guidance
inheritance among the saints
You’re not just saved from something—you’re saved
into something glorious.
Every one of these is a gift flowing from the Cross.
Let that truth settle deep: That’s why you need Jesus! Only believing and accepting that as the truth of your life and being can you be redeemed from that separation from God.
When you’re separated from God, nothing in life feels quite right. Your life can well look full, and even look like an enviable life to other people.
You might have everything you could ask for or nothing. You might keep busy, chase success, or fill your time with all sorts of distractions, but deep down, there’s an ache nothing on earth can fix.
That’s because you weren’t made to live apart from the One who created you.
Just like every human being since Adam you were designed to walk in communion with your creator, God Almighty. Without that connection, you’re spiritually dead—even if everything looks fine on the outside.
The first problem you face is the burden of sin
The heavy burden of sin began with the fall of Adam in the garden of Eden. When he disobeyed God, he separated himself from his creator.
This is the point at which sin entered the world, and death by sin passed upon all men (that’s you)—whether they sin or not. And now, each of us is born into this world separated from God.
You inherited more than just Adams nature as a human; you inherited his guilt and the curse of being separated from God.
When you are separated from God, it’s impossible to recieve from Him. You can think of this as having very wealthy parents that absolutely have everything in the world at their disposale, including both physical things, and wisdom.
But, they can’t share one single piece of it with you. They want to, but you’ve ailinated yourself from them, and until you personally have made the effort, took the first step, to be re-united with them, their hands are completly tied.
You can make your way through life, and you may even create and amass a fortune. You might have a great family. You might have all the world has to offer.
However, when you are separated from God, not one piece of your life ever came from Him.
And because of that, and the fact that God actually created you, and had a plan for you, you can never feel completely at ease in life.
For as long as you live, you will know there is something missing from your existance.
And that feeling will culminate at the end of your life. Because if you make your way through life without the help of God, you will be separated from Him for ALL OF ETERNITY.
And even though you could dismiss God while on earth, when you leave the earth you can not dismiss Him. You will be called to task for not accepting Him and Honoring Him as your God through Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son.
Your life on earth was given to you as an opportunity to be in relationship and fellowship with your Creator – or to refuse Him.
Life on earth was simply a staging ground for the rest of eternity. It determined whether you will spend the rest of all of eternity in completely constant agony or in the absolute presence of a Most Holy and Loving God.
Even if you could somehow live without committing a single sin, you would still be chained under the same curse of death and separation from God that Adam brought upon every soul.
It’s not just your actions that condemn you—it’s the condition you were born into.
The only escape from that inherited judgment is found in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished at the cross.
His death wasn’t just a sacrifice—it was a substitution. He bore your guilt, carried your curse, and died your death.
At Calvary, He broke the power of sin, the power of the curse, and the power of separation, and made a way for you to be born again into a new life free from Adam’s curse.
Through faith in His blood, you don’t just get forgiveness—you get freedom. You’re no longer in Adam. You’re in Christ, and that changes everything.
Without God, you’re carrying it all on your own. No matter how you try to clean yourself up, the separation from your creator keeps creeping in.
You might numb it with entertainment, relationships, or even religion, but the separation never stays quiet. It accuses. It enslaves. It grows.
Then comes the emptiness
You can climb every ladder the world offers—money, fame, power—social relationships, even church, but none of it fills that void.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says God has “set the world in their heart,” meaning there’s an eternal longing inside you that only He can satisfy.
When you ignore that, you wander. You drift. You search for meaning but never find it.
That emptiness is more than a feeling—it’s a spiritual signal. It tells you something’s missing, something deep, something eternal.
You might try to silence it with distractions, drown it in busyness, or numb it with pleasure, even helping other people.
But it never goes away. Because it’s not just loneliness. It’s not just sadness. It’s a soul ache—a craving for your Creator.
You were made for Him. And until you’re redeemed, that longing will haunt you. Nothing in this world can take His place. Not success. Not people. Not religion. Not even going to church.
Only Jesus fills that space, because He’s the One who put it there. Only making a concious and lasting decision that you are redeemed by His Blood that He shed on the Cross can you possibly be re-united with God Almighty, your very creator. The one that only has the very best for you.
When you ignore that, you wander. You drift. You search for meaning but never find it.
Separation from God also breeds fear
You start to fear death, fear judgment, fear judgement and critisizm from other people, your circumstances, and even fear life itself.
You don’t have the peace that passes understanding because you’re not anchored in truth. You live for today, but tomorrow looms like a shadow.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
This peace isn’t tied to circumstances. It isn’t something the world can offer or explain. It’s supernatural—flowing from trust in Jesus Christ. (It’s actually sorta hard to explain to people who aren’t living in it, but undeniable when you are.)
Even in chaos, you can be calm. Even in sorrow, you can stand firm. That’s the kind of peace only God gives.
Without God, you’re not moored to anything. Well, you may think you are, but whatever it is, it’s fleeting. Unlike being moored to God, your wordly anchor can be gone in a moment.
You might smile on the outside, but deep down, there’s a storm of what-ifs and unseen threats. You fear the end because you don’t know what waits beyond it.
You fear the present because you’re carrying it alone. And the thought of standing before a holy God—without mercy, without covering—should definitely terrify you, whether you admit it or not.
That kind of fear isn’t just emotional—it’s spiritual.
It’s the natural result of being cut off from the source of life, light, and truth. Only redemption brings peace.
Only knowing Jesus removes the sting of death and replaces it with hope. Without Him, fear becomes your master. But with Him, you’re set free.
Worst of all, you’re cut off from the very source of life
Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me… bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).
That’s not poetic language—it’s spiritual reality.
If you’re not connected to Him, you’re spiritually withering, no matter how alive you seem on the outside.
Without Him, there’s no true joy, no spiritual growth, no eternal purpose. You might chase success, relationships, or even religious activity—but none of it brings lasting fruit.
Why? Because life doesn’t flow from effort—it flows from Jesus. He’s the vine. You’re the branch. Apart from Him, everything dries up.
You may not realize it at first, but being separated from God is the root of every other struggle.
That empty feeling, that restless searching, that cycle of sin and sorrow—it all traces back to disconnection from your Creator.
Until you’re reconciled with Him, you’ll never truly be whole. You weren’t made to survive without Him. You were made to live through Him.
The Bible says plainly, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). That includes you. No amount of good works, religion, or self-effort can change that. Sin stains every heart, and the penalty is death—not just physical, but eternal (Romans 6:23).
But here’s the good news—“God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus took your place. He bore your punishment. He died the death you deserved, and He rose again to give you life.
When you accept Him as Savior, you’re not just believing in a historical figure—you’re receiving the gift of eternal life, forgiveness of every sin, and peace with God. You’re made new, adopted into God’s family, and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
You go from judgment to mercy, from wrath to grace, from darkness to light.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
There’s no other door, no alternate route. Either you accept Him and live forever—or you reject Him and die in your sins.
Have you made that choice yet—or are you still trying to go it alone?
