One of the most staggering truths of the New Covenant is this — you have direct, unhindered, permanent access to God the Father through Jesus Christ. Not through a priest. Not through a religious system. Not through your own merit or spiritual performance. Through Jesus alone, and through Him completely.
That access was purchased at the Cross. And it belongs to every believer who has placed their faith in what Christ accomplished there.
The Barrier Was Removed at Calvary
Before Christ, access to God was strictly limited. The Holy of Holies — the place where God’s presence dwelt — was separated from the rest of the temple by a thick veil. Only the high priest could enter, and only once a year, carrying the blood of a sacrifice. The message was unmistakable: sin creates a barrier between a holy God and sinful humanity, and that barrier cannot be crossed without blood.
When Jesus died on the Cross, that veil tore from top to bottom. God Himself opened the way.
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh. (Hebrews 10:19–20)
That new and living way is Jesus Christ Himself. His body, broken at Calvary, became the doorway into the presence of God. The barrier of sin that once made direct access impossible was removed permanently by His blood.
You Have Access by One Spirit
The access Christ opened is not external or institutional — it is spiritual and immediate. Through Jesus, every believer has direct access to the Father by the Holy Spirit living inside them.
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. (Ephesians 2:18)
That access does not depend on your spiritual track record on any given day. It does not require a human mediator, a religious ceremony, or a specific location. The Spirit of God dwells in you, and through that indwelling presence, the throne of God is accessible to you at any moment of any day.
You Are a Child of God
The access you have is not the access of a subject petitioning a distant king. It is the access of a child coming to a Father.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12)
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15)
Abba is an intimate term — the kind a child uses with a father they know and trust completely. That is the relationship the blood of Jesus purchased for you. Not distance. Not formality. Not fear. Intimacy with the God of the universe who has adopted you into His family through Christ.
Come Boldly
Because Jesus is your High Priest — the one who made the sacrifice and now intercedes for you at the right hand of the Father — you do not approach God with uncertainty or hesitation. You come boldly.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Boldness before God is not arrogance. It is faith in what Christ accomplished. You are not approaching God on the basis of your own righteousness — you are approaching Him on the basis of Christ’s righteousness covering you completely. That is what makes boldness not only possible but appropriate.
Jesus Is the Only Mediator
This access has one door and one door only. There is no other way to the Father, no alternative mediator, no substitute path.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5)
No priest, no saint, no religious figure, no church authority stands between you and God. Jesus alone opened the way. Jesus alone mediates between you and the Father. And because He ever lives to make intercession for you, that access is permanent and uninterrupted.
The Holy Spirit Helps You Pray
Even when you do not know what to say — when the burden is too heavy for words, when the situation is beyond your understanding, when grief or confusion leaves you silent — you are not alone in that moment.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
The Holy Spirit intercedes on your behalf in the moments your own words fail. You are never without representation before the Father. The Spirit within you and the Son at the Father’s right hand are both working on your behalf — always.
Live Like You Have Access
Direct access to God through Jesus Christ is not a theological concept to admire from a distance. It is a living reality to walk in every day.
Bring everything to God — your fears, your failures, your needs, your confusion, your gratitude. Come to Him in the morning before the day gets its claim on you. Return to Him throughout the day in short honest prayers. Come to Him at night with the weight of whatever the day carried. He is not distant. He is not reluctant. He is not waiting for you to become worthy enough to approach.
The blood of Jesus already made you worthy. The veil is already torn. The way is already open.
Come boldly. Come often. Come as you are — because the access Christ purchased for you has no expiration date and no conditions beyond faith in His finished work.
